About

Varsha Iyer - Professional conference interpreter

Varsha Iyer is a multilingual conference interpreter whose working languages span native-level Tamil and English together with C2 command of German, French and Hindi. After graduating with distinction from Heidelberg’s M.A. in Conference Interpreting, she joined the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Interpretation as a Blue Book trainee, where she maintains the IATE terminology database and steers the migration of legacy glossaries from static files into a SharePoint environment—an exercise that tightens linguistic consistency across EU institutions.

In September 2025 she will enter the College of Europe in Natolin on a North-Rhine-Westphalia scholarship, adding structured expertise in European policymaking to her established linguistic craft. The academic focus on governance, coupled with her South-Asian background, equips her to explain EU processes to Indian stakeholders and, conversely, to decode sub-continental business realities for European institutions.

Varsha’s professional range already extends beyond Brussels. She has lectured German-to-English interpreting at Mainz-Germersheim, supported Berlin-based Norbert Zänker & Kollegen with terminology briefs and interpreter logistics, and handled Erasmus administration for Heidelberg’s Faculty of Physics—each role strengthening her operational rigour and client-facing poise.

Taken together, these experiences position her as an interpreter who not only delivers accurate booth performance but also understands the procedural, cultural and commercial subtleties that shape dialogue between Europe and South Asia.
